Smith Rock
Smith Rock rises abruptly from the high desert region of Central Oregon. It is a popular destination for hikers. It is located near the city of Terrebone, north of Redmond, about 5 minutes from Hwy. 97.
Smith Rock is world famous for rock climbing. Its sheer cliffs are challenging for climbers and the views of the Crooked River, high plateau, and Cascade Mountains are outstanding.
The Central Oregon Cascades, including several volcanoes, can be seen looking west from Smith Rock.
The Crooked River meanders through Smith Rock State Park. It is popular for fishing and can be traversed by a foot bridge.
Hiking trails line the Crooked River in Smith Rock. A scene from the 2001 movie "Swordfish" starring John Travolta was filmed nearby in the Crooked River.
Central Oregon is a dry area. Juniper trees abound at Smith Rock.
